Croup attack!

A long week it has been! Element caught the croup virus in the weekend and had trouble breathing and drinking milk. Her cry was like that of a bark and a couple of times I actually thought she might just stop breathing. Thank god everything is fine and I can still blog about it now 😊

What is croup? Croup is a viral infection of the voice box (larynx) and windpipe (trachea) associated with signs of a respiratory infection, such as a runny nose or cough.

When we got to the doc, she prescribed Element a shot of oral steroids and gave us saline solutions to help break down the mucus. Since Element is 3 months old, she cant use any home remedies. It’s a blessing that we are still in the midst of winter and I brought Element out for a walk so that the cool mist could help soothe her. We got a humidifier and she slept in the car seat which made nightfall much more bearable! For older kids, warm honey and warm drinks in general helps.

Element’s feeling so much better now. Residual of some phelgm in her throat and coughs in between. She is supposed to heal over time or so the doc says. Her body clock has gone haywire.. she’s now very much awake in the wee hours of the night (3am~6am). Ahhhhh….. And yes I am very sleep deprived as I am writing this post. Yawns.

That smile makes everything worth it.
